A JOURNEY TOGETHER

About Charlie

Charlie spent almost 30 years as a high school and college music professor, arts administrator, and minister. It was a career that included master’s and doctoral degrees as well as extensive post-doctoral training in choral performance and in arts administration.

He served on the boards of several non-profit arts organizations and finished that portion of his career as a successful university administrator. Along the way, he has been blessed with a 40+-year marriage to his wife, Cindy, and three wonderful daughters.

In 2007, he left academia to embark on a new course in life.

Deeply passionate about ministry, he went back to school at the age of 50 to study theology and ministry, receiving the M.Div. degree from the George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University in 2010. During his time at Truett, he became interested in how pastoral care ministry could be expanded beyond people who were in crisis.

How could vital and life-giving ministry be provided to people who weren’t in crisis? How could ministry be crafted to unleash the potential of all people, not just people in crisis, but also individuals and groups who would benefit from a partner to walk alongside them on their journey?

Thus, A Journey Together was born.

Today, through A Journey Together, Charlie provides executive coaching services for individuals and teams. He is credentialed as an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation and is an active member of ICF. Having earned the D.Min. degree at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, his work is both highly personal and deeply rooted in academic/theological foundations. His doctoral research explored the outcomes of coaching for ministers.

His work is informed by years as a professor and dean, working with and leading teams for most of his adult life.  His work is also informed by his ministry experience as Minister for Congregational Life for Second Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, Executive Pastor for the First Baptist Church of the City of Washington, DC, and Transition Pastor for Lake Shore Baptist Church in Waco, TX.

You’ll find in him an empathetic listener, an insightful thinker, an encouraging presence, and a compassionate partner for your journey.
